My First Meeting

It was the 11:15 Midday up the backstairs of the Lutheran Church.  I was early.  Secretary Will C. greeted me.  He was 70-something with a graying beard and hair and gentle eyes. Will was the kindest person I had ever met.  Not a hint of judgement or evangelism, just an honest desire to make me feel at home.  Six or seven people straggled in and Will introduced me to each one in turn.  Each person's eyes lit up when they heard it was my first meeting -- fresh blood.

They passed around a meeting directory and each person wrote their name and phone number in the space provided in the back of the directory.  When the sharing began big Al T started off.  I don't remember the content of his sharing, but I do remember that almost as soon as he began to talk I knew I had found my way home.
